HI, I made it! With a cell phone, no cable and without my own laptop and away from home, I managed to make a post for the theme day!
I took this photo at an exhibition at Beijing to commemorate Hong Kong’s return to China. Do come back tomorrow for more photos of the exhibition.

I want to dedicate today’s post to my first cousin who passed away in Hong Kong yesterday. He was a big brother who had made my adolescence a little bit more bearable and had helped a lost teenager finding herself amongst the many siblings in a big family. He was the only big brother I had…

“365 photos and never missed a day”
This is what Eric proudly declared on the first anniversary of Paris Daily Photo (I forgot where, either in the forum or email or a comment somewhere). I have since made this my target…I’m going to say the same thing on HKDP’s anniversary, and I’ve made it!!!
This may not be a spectacular photo but this is the exact scene in the first photo of HKDP. I should thank all of you for visiting, leaving comments and sending me emails to encourage, inspire, share and makde suggestions! I will continue to post photos while I work in Shanghai, it won’t be easy but I hope you will keep visiting and encourage the contributors just like you have encouraged me.
To all HKDP’s frequent, infrequent, occasional and silent visitors, friends, footprinters, commenters:
Muchas Gracias/Merci beaucoup/Viele Dank/Ringraziarla/Dank u/Obrigado/спасибо/Takker De/Hvala/takk/謝謝/ありがとう/당신을 감사하십시오/شكرا/Blagodaria/Siyabonga
with love,
Lisi

This is the foyer of the apartment building I had stayed in the past year. Just a few hours before this photo is auto-published I should have walked through that glass door and leave for the airport. In fact, I shall be back in HK very soon on February 18th for Chinese New Year. I will continue to post photos and I hope you’ll continue to visit :-), don’t forget, the blog anniversary is on February 13th!

OK, I know this is not exciting at all, but I just want to show off my achievement over the weekend…I’m 95% done with packing. I still have a bit of stuff here and there but these are the boxes, paintings and photos waiting to be picked up. I’m afraid I’ll have to leave the poster on the door behind. But guess who it is? The first 5 winners get each get a postcard from Shanghai…mmm…Jing?
Thanks Walter for your photos!

My 10 favorite 2006 photos:
Happy New Year! It’s DP theme day and the theme is “Best photo of the year”. I don’t want to start 2007 with a re-post so I went back to where I took one of my favorite photos and got this shot. You can see the original post by clicking the thumbnail above. I have chosen a total of 10 favorites from last year to share with you, but if I am to choose only one favorite, I think I would choose “Wong Kar Wai’s colors” because I really enjoyed discovering it.
I interpret the theme as the best “according to myself” so it may not be the popular ones but they represent delightful moments that I discovered beauty in ordinary things, they are scenes that I wowed right away or photos that become my favorites later. I would also like to know which is your favorite HKDP photo, especially if it is not within the 10 photos shown here or if it is one that come to your mind right away
A floral tribute not only to the 3,000 Americans who vanished five years ago, but also to the 60,000 plus civilian Afghans and Iraqis killed by the stupidity of the Bush administration in the last five years. Unlike the repeated replays and publications of images at the World Trade Center, not many images of how these people suffered and died, and how their families grieved were ever seen. These people existed, suffered or died as innocently as the Americans; their fate was sealed on that same day but there is no memorial, no books, TV specials and movies to remember them. I hope they are not forgotton by the world.
