Shopping

Hong Kong

Just sharing a shot of my shopping in HK…I don’t really like these colors but they are work clothes! :)

Shoe shop

Hong Kong

They are quite rare now…this kind of old fashioned shoe shop can be found only in older areas, many of them have faded out long time ago…

Black

Hong Kong

A photo taken while I was shopping at the Cityplaza last week. As you can see, black is always the “in” color for winter.

apm

Hong Kong

Busy, I was very busy in Hong Kong and hence I have missed posting for a few days (sorry about that). But hey, I haven’t really forgotten to take photos while I shop! This shopping mall is called “apm” and it’s in Kwun Tong on the Kowloon side.

Green shirt

Hong Kong

I have a lot of shopping to do while I’m in HK and here’s one of the first things I’ve got — a green shirt and I like the light and color effect as seen here when I hang it in front of awindow…

Bowls

Hong Kong

Some colorful bowls I saw at Cat Street in Sheung Wan…I do have very mix-and-match plates, bowls and mugs at home, I’ve sort of grown tired of sets of dinnerware long time ago.

Character shop

I took this photo in Lamma Island and think this little shop really has a character of its own. See tomorrow’s photo for a direction sign to this shop :-)

Stanley market

Stanley

This is perhaps one of the most touristy places in Hong Kong, the Stanley Market, where you can find merchandises you can find anywhere in Hong Kong or some part of China. This place used to be really good for bargain export clothings and at one time, my favorite place to pick up second hand English books. :-)

Double happiness

double happiness

The pattern on all of these nostalgic household items may look familiar to you…the double happiness is actually a mirrow image of the Chinese character “happiness” 喜, and very often it appears in wedding, banquets and anything associated with wedding. This is the show window of a wedding shop.

How many?

people

How many people are there in this photo? I mean real people…
It’s a little confusing isn’t it? I took this photo in a hair salon while I was having a haircut, all these stylists really seem to be smiling into my camera. :-)

Midnight shopping

Contributors series 9
This is a photo by Walter, a frequent visitor to Hong Kong, one photo a day. As “midnight shopping” is the title given to this shot, I believe Walter took it somewhere in Mongkok or Causeway Bay where truly you can shop till past midnight. I kind of like the motion and atmosphere of this photo. Thanks Walter!

We don’t discuss religions and politics here in Hong Kong Daily Photo but I just want to show you that religious/political harmony does exist in Hong Kong.

Old timers

clocks

Just like old time…I strolled into Cat Street and got this shot…I doubt if these are real antique clocks but maybe I’m just suspicious…what do you think?

Upstair view

Causeway Bay

Near where I took the “24 hours” photo, I saw this lingerie shop on the second floor of an old building! I’m not sure if they do mail order but if you’re really interested I can get the contact information for you :-)

Back at the supermarket

Back at the supermarket

These are all soy sauce, a must-have for Chinese kitchens…dark soy sauce, sweet soy sauce, chili soy sauce, low sodium or premium…I believe there are even more varieties in the super supermarkets in the Mainland and Taiwan. For me, I don’t have the bottled ones but a bunch of those little packets I got from sushi delivery.
If you are interested here’s the website of one of the brands, you can also find some recipes there.

At a supermarket

At a supermarket

I was at a supermarket and here’s a small section of the condiment shelf. Guess what I picked? Pitted olives and hot English mustard (very good!). Of course, we have a much wider range of soy sauce and oyster sauce. I’ll show you later.

Small head, big dream

Small head, big dream

The smaller the head, the bigger the dream.—Austin O’Malley
The dream of HK’s little girls (aka princesses) is to own all of these. Or is this dream universal?
I took this photo at a streetside stall selling all the hair accessories you can think of, and this is only a small portion of the merchandise they carry…
