It’s Chinese New Year and eating is a big part…here’s a dish at our family dinner on CNY eve — fried scallop and clam meat with vegetables.
I will be posting some photos by my visitors in the next few days. This one by David Magliocco was taken in Aberdeen on Hong Kong Island and David said: Each time I see this picture I promise to myself that the next time I will try this dish, it looks so yummy!
Very brave of you, David :-)…thanks for the photo!

I have to confess, I had a lot of this streetside food the last time I was in Hong Kong, it carries a lot of good flavors, MSG, fun and childhood memories…and it’s yummy!

I took this photo of an Indian food shop at a shopping mall; and if you understand Chinese you may agree that its Chinese name, when pronounced in Cantonese, matches the pronunciation of its English name perfectly.

Today I’m sharing the appetizers I had at a gathering with my buddies…we had hot pot afterwards. Hot pot is so popular that I had two hot pot dinners during the week in HK…but I am sharing a cold dish here, very nice grilled eggplant…yummy…

I’m starting another round of contributors’ photos today and as usual we start with SiuSiu’s photo. And since we haven’t had a food photo for so long I think we should be rather hungry by now. Here’s a photo of our gathering and we made a kimchi (Korean pickles) hotpot. It’s obvious that we like meat, a lot of meat!

No, this is not my typical breakfast but I should say congee and steamed rice roll are the typical breakfast of quite a number of Hong Kong people. Today is a Daily Photo theme day and the theme is “typical breakfast” and there are about 100 other breakfasts waiting for you, have a “breakfast” tour using the links underneath…and bon apetite

I made a trip to Hong Kong about 10 days ago and as soon as I got out from the airport I joined my buddies for a great dinner at this Japanese restaurant. Here’s Mike trying to steal the camera

Just like there is a “Great Wall Restaurant” in most big cities, there is a “Habibi Restaurant” in at least three of the cities I have lived. I guess you already know the direction to the one in Hong Kong.

A corner at a local coffee chain store, this one certainly has more “character” than Starbucks. If you think you’ve seen this before (Michelle?) then maybe you’ve seen this post last year

Photo by HKDP contributor Tony Mak. Simply put, Tony, you are not selfish because you are sharing these yummy shellfish
but I have to tell you that poisonous toxins are found in scallops (the ones with a $7 price tag) recently and they are not available in markets anymore; see this wiki link on shellfish poisoning and this link as this problem seems to appear in the US as well.

I took this photo from the top deck of a bus while I was stuck in a big traffic jam in Causeway Bay. This shop is a popular place for soy milk and bean curb, in fact, I heard it has become a popular franchise store. I especially like the fried bean curb there…very tasty!!!! Happy Sunday and sorry for the late post today

At the corner of Cochrane Street and Lyndhurst Terrace is Dozo!, a Japanese restaurant painted bright red and is so eye-catching…I have’t tried it myself but this place is usually not very busy…mmm…so…:-) Btw, does anyone know what Dozo means in Japanese? I have the feeling that it means either “please” or “thank you”.
