Street lamps

Hong Kong

There are quite a few different styles of street lamps in Hong Kong, but I guess my favorites are these ones at one of my favorite corners in the city — the King George V Memorial Park. See the night view of the same spot here.

Today is a DP theme day and more than 100 bloggers are publishing photos of street lamps and street signs in their cities, please use the links underneath to visit.

Bored

Hong Kong

I don’t know how to write caption for this one: how about “I’m absolutely bored playing by myself.” and “I’m absolutely bored watching you play.” :-)

Porthole? Not exactly, I took this photo from my favorite spot in my favorite park — the King George V Memorial Park. See the “portholes” in this photo or see a night time view here :-)

Quiet garden

park

Photo by HKDP contributor K Tam: This photo was taken at the HK Zoological and Botanical Gardens as the sun was just about done falling. It was really quiet and peaceful since it was getting a bit late and dark and not many people where there. A lady told me that the Pandas went into their shelters cause it had gotten too cold. :( I walked around anyway and found this fountain. I adjusted the exposure in the photo to try to get a nice effect of the changing fountain colors and moving water.

How do you capture a flying kite in photo…I have absolutely no clue but I believe faster shutter may help in this case but still the kite isn’t quite sharp enough :-)

KGV Park

Sheung Wan

Tomorrow is the first anniversary of Hong Kong, one photo a day and I just want to show you the most photographed place of this blog — the King George V Memorial Park in Sheung Wan. I have counted at least 15 posted photos which were taken here. Almost all the photos about/with trees, a few about people playing basketball, chess and the “Caged man” were taken around this green patch.

p.s. share your Hong Kong photos with us, click here for details.

Caged man

Caged man

Another shot from yesterday. First, the beautiful bird cages caught my attention, then the owner gave me quite an unfriendly look (maybe he saw me snooping around for photos). I just felt like doing a bit of justice for the birds (actually to entertain myself) so I took this photo, putting him behind wired fence in the image. :p

Young at heart

061020s.jpg

About staying young at heart: while I bothered the ants with my camera (see this photo), my dad played with my nephews. The kids (or little rascals) had been begging him the whole afternoon so finally my dad agreed to help them make a fire with some pine cones they had gathered :-). Well, they used the barbeque pit but we really didn’t need that fire. Sshhhh, don’t tell them about this post…Have a good weekend!

This photo is for Lavender Lady who’s enjoying her grandma stage in Sequim :-) and Meg in Nelson who can never be too old to stay young at heart!!

Resignation

061019s.jpg

I have always loved this passage which was widely circulated through emails a few years ago:

**RESIGNATION**
I am hereby officially tendering my resignation as an adult. I have decided I would like to accept the responsibilities of an 8 year-old again.

I want to go to McDonald’s and think that it’s a four star restaurant. I want to sail sticks across a fresh mud puddle and make a sidewalk with rocks. I want to think M&Ms are better than money because you can eat them. I want to lie under a big oak tree and run a lemonade stand with my friends on a hot summer’s day.

I want to return to a time when life was simple; When all you knew were colors, multiplication tables, and nursery rhymes, but that didn’t bother you, because you didn’t know what you didn’t know and you didn’t care. All you knew was to be happy because you were blissfully unaware of all the things that should make you worried or upset.

I want to think the world is fair. That everyone is honest and good. I want to believe that anything is possible. I want to be oblivious to the complexities of life and be overly excited by the little things again.

I want to live simple again. I don’t want my day to consist of computer crashes, mountains of paperwork, depressing news, how to survive more days in the month than there is money in the bank, doctor bills, gossip, illness, and loss of loved ones. I want to believe in the power of smiles, hugs, a kind word, truth, justice, peace, dreams, the imagination, mankind, and making angels in the snow.

So . . . here’s my checkbook and my car-keys, my credit card bills and my RRSP statements. I am officially resigning from adulthood. And if you want to discuss this further, you’ll have to catch me first, cause…….. ……”Tag! You’re it.”

Remember the Simple things in Life.

Kinder in garten

Kinder in garten

Kids in the park…my camera was following the boy chasing bubbles and then he ran into these girls with their nannies. The baby girl standing and looking right into the camera is just so adorable. I loaded this photo in a wrong folder and just rediscovered it today, it was actually shot a few months ago and these little girls should have graduated from “diapers” now.

Myrmecophobia

061012s.jpg

“Chief, paparazzi alert! This one is not myrmecophobic…” (Myrmecophobia = fear of ants)
These guys were working extra hard to get ready for autumn, smart of them to hang around a picnic ground. They don’t seem to be anthropophobic. (Anthropophobia = fear of people) Here’s a shot from the ants’ point of view.
Do you have any phobia? Phobophobia, maybe??!! LOL (Phobophobia = fear of phobias)

Autumn leaves

061011s.jpg

This can go with a Chinese idiom: 一葉知秋. These four characters are literally: One, Leaf, Aware, Autumn; loosely meaning you can tell it’s autumn by seeing a leaf, extending to other meanings such as awareness of nature, logics in daily life and mindful observations in life.

So here it is, autumn in HK. This photo was taken at the country park seen in yesterday’s photo and is inspired by this photo by Kris and of course, many of Bob’s.
