previously Hong Kong, one photo a day (Feb 13th 2006 — Feb 13th 2008), now posting photos of cities I’ve been to
I took this photo inside a bank while waiting for my friend…I don’t think they allow phototaking but…hey nobody noticed.

Here’s the direction sign to Loso Shop on Lama Island…like the shop, it has a character of its own…maybe the owner will find this post one day and explain how he/she got the name of the shop…:-)

This is the evidence…Prince Charming does exist!
I took this photo during a hiking trip…is this sense of humor or high self-esteem?![]()

Run free and fly high…isn’t it a relaxing scene? This is going to be a great weekend for me as I am in Macau with friends and family. Maybe I’ll try my luck at the casinos too
By the way, I took this photo in Lamma Island. Have a great weekend everybody!

This is the panoramic view on top of a hill in Lamma Island and I took this “photo” during a hiking trip last week. It is in fact a stitched image of two photos I took with wide angle lense so I guess it is extra-wide enough for a special occasion — post #300…getting closer to the big milestone!
To all HKDP’s frequent, infrequent, occasional and silent visitors, footprinters, commenters:
Muchas Gracias/Merci beaucoup/Viele Dank/Ringraziarla/Dank u/Obrigado/спасибо/Takker De/Hvala/takk/謝謝/ありがとう/당신을 감사하십시오/شكرا/Blagodaria/Siyabonga
(don’t see “thank you” in your language? Teach me so that I can add it to the list :-))
The small bay on the right is Sok Kwun Wan, a small village famous for its seafood restaurants. You can also see some fish farms nearby the coast. On the left in the far background is the southern district of the HK island. Sok Kwun Wan is about 30 minutes by ferry from Central or Aberdeen and as far as I know, the seafood restaurants there have pretty good reputation both with the food and price.
Have a great weekend everybody!

What do you think the owner of this trawler was thinking fishing near a power plant? Or was he collecting samples of fish tainted with chemical wastes?
Just a bit of current issue to go with this photo…HK is a city with very limited natural resources and to feed the 7 million people here, foods are imported. One of the major suppliers is (you don’t even have to be imaginative to figure out) Mainland China. From time to time, there are reports of chemically tainted foods from the Mainland (I’m being politically correct here not to say “China”). There are frequent reports of cancer-causing chemicals found in various kinds of fish, vegetables and most recently, eggs (see today’s news here). Sadly, the rapid modernizatioin of a predominantly agricultural nation has put dangerous chemicals into the hands of unethical farmers. Now, will this post put this blog back behind the Great (fire)Wall of China? ![]()

This is me, the beesy bee…very busy ![]()
This is a photo I took in Lamma Island and it’s not very often that I can do closeup without shaking (unless I put my camera on something)!
You will see a bit of changes in the sidebars underneath…I’m not sure what to keep and what to get rid of, so for the time being, you may see different things every time you come here. But if you see a whole bunch of codes and wacky stuff, that means I have screwed up my site and you can just sigh and pray for me, lol! Well, can’t say I’m not having fun at the same time so enjoy yourself anywaz.
p.s. there’s a poll underneath, have a look!

So here it is, the new home!
There are still lots of things to do…it’s very much like unpacking stuff after a move — it can take a few months
and I’m new with this blogging platform so it’s like losing sense of direction in a new house sometimes.
From the old site…I have imported all the posts here so you may still browse the archive, but mind you, some of the photos may not load properly as yet, so bear with me.
It will be a long and slow process for me to fix everything the way I like…for example, for the recent posts section underneath, I would like to have photo thumbnails to show up as well! (if any web design or wordpress experts out there know how, please let me know)…
For the time being, the comment form is acting funny on my FireFox WinXP environment but the comment will still post. If you run into problem browsing and commenting please let me know (email: hongkongdailyphoto”at”gmail.com).
Enjoy and please let me have your suggestions!

Hissing cat quoting Lewis Carroll: You must be mad……or you wouldn’t have come here. The truth behind all these HK photos — not all of us are friendly! LOL. Regarding cats, I think people can be referred to in these groups and quotations:
Cat lover: The idea of calm exists in a sitting cat. — Jules Renard (yeah, like this one?)
Cat hater: Your cat’s missing? Have you checked my bumper? — anonymous for obvious reason (LOL)
Neutral:I like pigs. Dogs look up to us. Cats look down on us. Pigs treat us as equals. — Winston Churchill (isn’t Sir Winston an interesting figure? A man of wisdom.)
Whichever group you’re in, have a good week!

The last time I posted a song with a photo(<-- link) it seemed to work pretty well so here's another romantic scene and song for you. The photo was taken at a beach at Lamma Island on a beautiful day last week. The song is "Chances are", I believe it's an older song (anybody knows?) but I first heard it in "Ally McBeal" by Vonda Shepard and Robert Downey Jr <-- I like him :p...Chances are you'll like it and I'll be really glad?? Today we have a collage of various scenes in Herboland — two adorable baby rabbits, a dutiful gnome guarding the plants, the friendly entrance and the tranquil herbal tea corner are just a few of the things bringing beauty and magic to this wonderful place.
A bit of nature Islands
Passion fruit trees in Herboland (see yesterday’s post).
I actually laughed out loud when I read on the net that in some cultures, people believe that “after eating a passion fruit, you fall in love with the next person you make eye contact with”!
Geez, that can be dangerous, either you make sure the “right” person is around; or the “right” person will actually look at you (and not a super model) after he/she bites into the fruit. And then equally dangerous is that passion fruit flowers and unripe passion fruits contain cyanide. So, ripe or unripe, watch out if you are given a passion fruit…mmm…on second thought, who do you want to give a passion fruit to? Ripe or unripe?

He has his rubber ducky to keep company…just kidding. This is Herboland, an organic herb farm in Lamma Island and this photo was taken yesterday afternoon from its little tea house. Two young city professionals, Gary and Gavin, gave up their designer jobs and pursue their dreams by setting up Herboland in Lamma Island, a community where there is no convenience stores, supermarkets, MacDonald’s or chain stores. I think this is Gavin in the background (I talked to him but forgot to ask his name), a lucky guy to be doing something he loves as a career.
Links: more about the vibrant community of Lamma Island, Herboland and a newspaper interview with Gary and Gavin.
This is part of the power station on Lamma Island. We have many of these chimneys from coal burning stations, while only one wind turbine as wind power is still at a testing stage here. That partly explains the polluted air you see in this photo.
