One of the many photos I took when I was very into taking panning shots…This one was taken in Central and I bet I looked pretty odd chasing these vehicles with my camera.

Des Voeux Road

Hong Kong

A photo by Greg Williamson — a view of Des Voeux Road in Central, a major road where the tramway lies. Des Voeux Road used to be at the waterfront before reclamation, it is now about 10 minutes away on foot from the sea.

Deserted

Central

This photo is by Kevin Tan from Singapore. Kevin took this photo of one of the busiest streets in the Central district and I’m amazed to see it kind of “deserted”. I also like the stylish yellowish color of this photo. Please visit Kevin’s blog here :-)

Mmmm…Luke, you captured the brilliant gold and red so well…but I think this is a Taoist temple, at least that’s what the sign says :-)

Photo by HKDP contributor Walter: In a dark, chilly, misty evening, a brave photographer took this photo of the Bank of China Building and Cheung Kong Building in Central…ok, I made up this caption for Walter so my friend, let me know if it is accurate :-)

HI all, I’m back from Vancouver, thank you for visiting and I hope you enjoy the contributors’ photos! :-)

Art is subjective. I took this photo outside an art gallery in Central. What do you see here? I see Matrix+Ghandi :-)

Sea to sky

highway

This is Garden Road in Central, a major road channeling traffic all the way from the waterfront to the Peak. As you can see, this road leads to the Mid-Levels, Kennedy Road and Lower Albert Road. I took this photo from a pedestrian walkway above Garden Road near the Hong Kong Park and I think the view from it is pretty cool :-).

Hey Lisi, guess you may agree with me, when we talk about nightlife in Hongkong, we can’t avoid thinking of tai-pai-dong :) It is not an accident that Mr Wong shows Maggie Cheung buying Won-tun noodle at night in his ‘In the Mood of Love’ . ~Michelle~

Michelle, a frequent visitor of this blog, a Hong Konger who lives in France now, took this photo when she visited Hong Kong during Chinese New Year. Yes Michelle I absolutely agree with you. And this is absolutely 100% typical HK life :-) See this post last year on more info on Daipaidong.

New pier

pier

This view may be a bit confusing…from the Central waterfront looking east, the HK Exhibition and Convention Centre (the wavy structure) actually seems very close to the new Star Ferry pier (the clock tower) in Central, while in fact they are farther apart (see this photo for reference, one is on the far right, the other was under construction on the far left). To further confuse you, the clock tower of the new pier is a replica of an old clock tower which preceded this one (<--link) which was demolished last month.
Thanks to Randy, Paul and David for contributing photos…and I hope there will be more coming… :-)

The hazy sky at dusk…a photographer was totally engrossed in capturing the view from Central looking towards Wanchai. I’ll show you the view he probably got tomorrow :-)
p.s. You can picture me standing in the same spot taking photos, but of course the hairstyle is different…I know I know…I’m baaaaaaaaaaad!

Remember the “Fer Whe”? This is the Ferris Wheel :-)…This post is made when we are still having internet/communication problem in Asia and connection is on and off from time to time…Posting has not been easy for me…Hope things will return to normal soon for the new year.

Fer whe

“Fer whe” means half a ferris wheel, and that’s what you see here :-). It is just kind of surreal to see a 50-meter high ferris wheel rising up among our jungle of buildings. Publicity says it is the largest in Asia — well, size doesn’t matter (!) and it is beautiful all the same…I zoomed in from afar for this shot but I’m definitely going to get closer and take more photos! In the meantime, take a look of this wider shot.

P.S. Don’t miss this amazing photo at Real DP!

Just a random shot in Central lining up a lucky star and a “sweet” heart for all of you (and myself ;-)).
I’ve enjoyed the weather this weekend which was sunny, dry and cool. When you see this post I must have already handed in my assignment (freedom!); two more classes tonight and Wednesday and the holidays begin!!! There will be more Christmas photos coming soon! Have a great week everybody :-)

I am very into taking panning shots these days and though I’m still at a practising stage, I like this one I took in Central. It’s only a half-success but I like the image formed by the green truck and the colorful neon signs in the background…so I’m sharing with you anywaz.
Have a good sunday wherever you are :-)

Meet Justitia

Meet Justitia

Justice is blind? Maybe, but not Justitia, or Lady Justice. Though the Greek goddess is usually depicted wearing blindfold, the myth goes that she did it voluntarily to show people that justice was upheld regardless. Justitia (I kind of like this name) is no stranger to western culture as she is often seen adorning courthouses and important buildings. Here in HK, she stands on top of the former Supreme Court Building in Central, side by side with the big boys of $$ power, the Bank of China building and the Cheung Kong Centre.
Links: photo of a not blindfolded Justitia I took last year in Venice, an earlier post showing the building.
