Blue yellow black

San Diego

A photo taken at the San Diego Wild Animal Park on December 31, 2007. No such blue sky in Shanghai and I like the bright yellow hot-air balloon against sky blue with the dots of black birds.

Good idea?

Shanghai

I start my “random, not just Hong Kong, infrequent, irregular” posting of photos of other cities with this one. “What is a good idea?” — I took this photo in Shanghai where I work and live but can’t call a home yet ;-)

Farewell

Hong Kong

It’s time to say Goodbye. 2 years, 731 posts, a lot of fun plus lots of good friends…

I started HKDP two years ago after being away from Hong Kong for a while and found Eric’s Paris Daily Photo by chance. HKDP was either the 13th or 16th (can’t remember for sure) blog in the Daily Photo Family, it was a small and cozy circle then. Now, it has grown into a big community of nearly 500 blogs and I really am sorry that I have to leave.

Today’s is the last daily post of this site and I took this photo at the Po Lin Monastery showing one of the statues making offerings to the Buddha.

I will try to post from time to time but I can’t promise to do it regularly; but I do believe that you, the friends I have made through this site in the past two years will keep visiting and we’ll keep in touch. :-)

Countdown to the farewell — 2 more days until the suspension of HKDP
This is one of the pillars at Wisdom Path at Ngong Ping near the Po Lin Monastery. The Wisdom Path is made up of 38 similar wooden pillars with a Buddhist sutra inscribed on them. There are lots of interesting information on it at this link.

I went to Tung Chung and took a ride on “Ngong Ping 360″ cable car to see the big Buddha on the mountain. If you ever come to Hong Kong and you haven’t been there, don’t miss it.

Countdown to the farewell — 4 more days until the suspension of HKDP
One of the things to do in Hong Kong for Chinese New Year is going to a shopping mall and share some fun time with friends; and of course, taking some photos together.

Good fortune

Hong Kong

Dear visitors,

Sorry for the long silence and absence of posts in the last week. I’m in HK now for Chinese New Year and here’s a photo I took this afternoon at a display at the International Finance Center showing a woman in front of a Chinese character which means “good fortune”.

In a few days I’ll catch up and fill up the “blanks” in the last 10 days; and today we’ll start the countdown to the suspension of posting of Hong Kong, one photo a day after its second anniversary on February 13th.

Being away from HK for a whole year, I find it amazing that I am able to keep posting although I’m not always posting on time. In the coming year, work will be more demanding and posting Hong Kong photos would be quite impossible. It is a difficult decision for me as this blog have brought me so much joy and friends. I’ll post occasionally, and the photos may not be all about Hong Kong…it could be Shanghai or wherever work and vacation take me.

Thank you all for visiting and I hope there will be another daily photo blog on Hong Kong soon which will show you, in different perspectives, this city that I love.

With best regards,

Lisi

Floats

Hong Kong

Looking down from a restaurant in Sheraton Hotel in TsimShaTsui, I saw these floats outside the Hong Kong Museum of Art. They were standing by for a Chinese New Year parade. See the red one on the right? I guess it’s obvious that the most famous mouse in the world will be there for the Year of Rat.

Red is definitely the theme color of all kinds of celebrations in China as shown in this festive decoration of the Ocean Terminal in TsimShaTsui.
