Wonton

wonton

Apart from milk tea, what other food do HKers miss when they’re away from home? I bet it’s wonton noodles. And similar to milk tea, wonton is easy to make but few can be the best. I took these photos at the BEST wonton noodle shop in Hong Kong, Mak’s Noodels Restaurant. These people had kindly let me photographed them working, hence composing this little “the making of wonton” collage.

well well well freshly made wonton noodle is indeed one of the food we miss when we are away from home hk! It is not only about the dumplings, but also the soup, the fresh noodle, sauce, and the fact that the cook prepare the dish in front of you (if you want to go and see it) when you order it… makes this little bowl of wonton noodle in hk so exceptionnel…

I am kind of so regret not being able to take my favorite ’street’ food in hk during my last trip. Problem is gathering between families and friends in Hk take place mostly in formal restaurants. So very often, with limited time of visit, local places for eating like tai-pai-dong, cha-chan-ten, and min (noodle soup) restaurants etc become sort of luxury places for me where i can rarely put my feet inside! what a pity…

Dear Michelle, Kris and Walter, I guess it’s different with everyone, but when I miss home food such as milk tea or wonton, no matter how much I miss them, I wouldn’t settle for “imitations”, I would just stubbornly keep missing it until, if I’m lucky enough, I would find the perfectly made one. Like Kris said, milk tea is easier, but I wouldn’t expect anything remotely similar to Mak’s wonton in Shanghai :-) and we do have a Mak’s branch in Vancouver!
