Mystic mailboxes

garden

I walk past this quiet street in Sheung Wan quite often and have noticed these mailboxes for a while. Mystic because they are nailed on a tree surrounded by apartment buildings and instead of address information or names, they are marked with “Dad”, “Sister”, “Brother” and “Teacher” in Chinese. Bizarre and quite different with these mailboxes.

Very bizarre! Must be an explanation in there somewhere…I admire the clarity of the I.D.’s on all the boxes (even the ones on “You’ve Got Mail”! :-)

They are all very small! How do you do when you want to receive a parcel?

    Hi there,
Quite intersting. I saw some mailboxes here in Istanbul, they were the mini size of the original house, made by the architect of the house. Ofcourse when I say “house”, I don’t mean condos, apartments…I mean mansions….Guess, very soon, we wont need any kind of mailboxes anymore…

And there’s really letters inside! Maybe you can write a letter and put in the ‘teacher’ box and ask them to give you an explanation?

Hi…thanks for the footprints, you know what…I walked past it again today and found that on the very rusty one (top right) it actually says “younger brother”, and the mail inside are pretty yellowish…that’s adding more to the mystery!

Alice, if we get a parcel we usually get a notification card and then we’ll have to go pick it up at the nearby post office.

    min…very funny…I’m sure you’re a little “mui mui” :-)

very intriguing, right? I kind of think, maybe it’s some kind of installation art/street art :-)
