Red lanterns

Sheung Wan

I took this photo on Sunday in Aberdeen as I’ve always wanted to photograph these red lamp shades of the fruit stalls. I guess the reddish light makes the fruits’ more attractive, as seen in this photo I posted last August of the same stall.

Open door

garden

This is the foyer of the apartment building I had stayed in the past year. Just a few hours before this photo is auto-published I should have walked through that glass door and leave for the airport. In fact, I shall be back in HK very soon on February 18th for Chinese New Year. I will continue to post photos and I hope you’ll continue to visit :-), don’t forget, the blog anniversary is on February 13th!

Done packing

Sheung Wan

OK, I know this is not exciting at all, but I just want to show off my achievement over the weekend…I’m 95% done with packing. I still have a bit of stuff here and there but these are the boxes, paintings and photos waiting to be picked up. I’m afraid I’ll have to leave the poster on the door behind. But guess who it is? The first 5 winners get each get a postcard from Shanghai…mmm…Jing?

Thanks Walter for your photos!

Short-sighted

Causeway Bay

I’m actually a short-sighted person…I mean I’m myopic :) One of the many errands I have to run before leaving HK is to order some contact lenses and get a new pair of glasses…So here I was, at an optical shop in Causeway Bay waiting for my new “eyes”…and I did get a new pair in red! Oh…and I’ve been asked many times, why don’t I fix it with Lasik? Well, I just don’t like to be operated on, have never been “cut” and I don’t even have my ears pierced though I have lots of ear-rings…yes, stubborn me :-)

Old timers

Just like old time…I strolled into Cat Street and got this shot…I doubt if these are real antique clocks but maybe I’m just suspicious…what do you think?

Centre Street

garden

The view from Centre Street between Mid-Levels and Sheung Wan looking towards Kowloon…maybe not a scenic view but a view of local life…buildinigs, sign of a pawn shop, fishbone antennas and etc. And if any of these old apartments are for rent or for sale, they would be advertised as having a seaview even if it is just a sliver half as wide as the gap between the buildings as seen in this photo.

Tinyhands, got your photos! Thanks!

Comfort food

garden

Huge, unfinishable, “unhealthy” American breakfast is one of my comfort foods…and I prefer it rather than dim sum. I meant to show you this really big and yummy breakfast (actually brunch) but as you can see, I completely forgot about you when it arrived at my table, lol…I took this photo at “The Flying Pan“, the same place I took yesterday’s photo. For about US$15, I got brown toasts, fried tomato, sauages, ham, bacon, eggs, fruits, cranberry juice and bottomless coffee…not bad huh…

Thanks King for your photo!

Time fries

Yes, time fries!! Especially when it is on a pan! But then it has a pair of wings so maybe it flies as well? It’s the day of another exam and the birthday of a long-lost friend, and one week to go before I leave HK for Shanghai. :-) I took this photo in a 24-hour diner which serves bottomless coffee and all-day breakfasts, and I wish there are many similar restaurants in Shanghai because I would need my comfort food from time to time.

Mystic mailboxes

garden

I walk past this quiet street in Sheung Wan quite often and have noticed these mailboxes for a while. Mystic because they are nailed on a tree surrounded by apartment buildings and instead of address information or names, they are marked with “Dad”, “Sister”, “Brother” and “Teacher” in Chinese. Bizarre and quite different with these mailboxes.

Late night

I took this photo late at night in a quite street in Mid-Levels…that shining chandelier of a new apartment building was so eye-catching in the dark street…a lone pedestrian…a hidden camera taking photos…

Thanks Ysengrin and Iza, your photos are great!

Buenos Aires in HK

Congratulations to Karine for the first anniversary of Buenos Aires Daily Photo! Karine has been my friend from the very first day of HKDP — she is the second person to leave footprint here. So I was really scratching my head to find something special to post today and then I saw this newspaper advertisement on Wednesday…and BINGO! Tango has been one of Karine’s favorite subjects and this is a tango performance from Buenos Aires! Click here for more info on the forthcoming program in the Hong Kong Arts Festival; and please don’t forget to pop in to Buenos Aires DP to say Hi to Karine. :-)

Fat Angelo’s

It’s dinner for two at Fat Angelo’s in Central on Monday…we had stuffed mushrooms, salad, fettucine with salmon and cioppino (yummy)…not shown in this photo in case you are reading this in the middle of the night and your fridge is empty :-) But if you really want to look, go to their website and check out the menu of this American Italian restaurant…well, at least the portions are very American :-).

New pier

pier

This view may be a bit confusing…from the Central waterfront looking east, the HK Exhibition and Convention Centre (the wavy structure) actually seems very close to the new Star Ferry pier (the clock tower) in Central, while in fact they are farther apart (see this photo for reference, one is on the far right, the other was under construction on the far left). To further confuse you, the clock tower of the new pier is a replica of an old clock tower which preceded this one (<--link) which was demolished last month.
Thanks to Randy, Paul and David for contributing photos…and I hope there will be more coming… :-)

The hazy sky at dusk…a photographer was totally engrossed in capturing the view from Central looking towards Wanchai. I’ll show you the view he probably got tomorrow :-)
p.s. You can picture me standing in the same spot taking photos, but of course the hairstyle is different…I know I know…I’m baaaaaaaaaaad!
