Few would argue that dai pai dong, cha chaan teng (tea restaurant) and HK styled milk tea are symbols of HK life and culture. I took this photo in a high end tea restaurant (actually tea restaurants are not supposed to be high end ;-)) in Central where they are using fancier cups compared with this typical one (<--link) but similarly these ceramic cups are made thicker than regular tea cups to keep the milk tea warm.

A great photo as usual … sigh!
Are there public places in HK to experience and enjoy the Gung Fu (Kung Fu) tea ceremony? Or, is it primarily a private event? Thanks!

The angle is fantastic. Being an indoor night shot, it is well exposed and focus on the foreground cup is precise. I like the design on it too.

My sis just visited HK, and yes, she visited a Cha Chaan Teng, so that she can experience HK life
November 30th, 2006, at 12:27 am #Your friend may wring your neck given you posted her photo without a smile. She looks a little bored. Is this because your ignoring her and taking photos instead?
November 30th, 2006, at 1:27 am #Nice blog, Lisi, visually and subject-wise. Like visiting HK with a local friend. .I’m looking forward to the next post…
November 30th, 2006, at 2:43 am #Lovely cup of tea, although I have become ‘more French’ and prefer coffee!
I love how the new blog is shaping up - a complete make over. Well done Lisi.
November 30th, 2006, at 4:49 pm #Carlos, thanks again for your suggestion
Keropok, I think the Singpore/Malaysia version of milk tea is pretty good as well
Denton, she can’t, she doesn’t live here, haha…she was waiting for her drink and there were other people there so…maybe she’s pretending to be cool…lol
Thanks Isabella!
Wilf, for me, I alternate between coffee and tea…depending on whether I need sugar
(that’s for the tea)
November 30th, 2006, at 7:04 pm #Great shot! I am enjoying a mug of tea with milk and honey as I peruse the Theme Thursday “cup” entries. I hope I look a little happier than your friend.
